The Siberian Family: the origins and natural resources of psychological health

Abstract

For the first time in Russian science and practice the monograph examines issues related to the mental and psychological health of the Siberian family, taking into account interdisciplinary aspects.

The book has 3 main features: a) addressing the totality of genetic, climatic, landscape and cultural criteria for identifying different variants of the Siberian family; b) addressing primarily the environmental, economic and confessional (shamanism, Orthodoxy, Buddhism) determinants of the psychological health of the family; c) taking into account the experience gained over 50 years of joint work the life of a particular family, and the presence of expert opinions on the problem from family members who have been differing in their mental and psychological health for many years. All these three aspects are described on the basis of four groups of Siberian families (aboriginal, old-timers of the Russian type, Old Believers, polyethnic (mixed)). Each of these families has notable ethnoregional specifics, which are revealed in the book.

The book is intended for students and undergraduates studying family issues; it can be used by researchers and practitioners whose functions include working with young families. Some of its sections and recommendations will be useful to read in specific families.
