Irkutsk State University is a classical university combining its rich heritage and modern technologies. ISU conducts educational scientific and research activities in a variety of profound and promising perspectives which are in high demand in Russia and abroad. ISU is consistently ranked in Russian and international academic rankings, thus proving its popularity in the sphere of education and science.

Irkutsk State University (ISU) is the leading scientific and educational institution in Eastern Siberia. ISU was founded in 1918, and since that time it has been playing a crucial role in the sustainable development of the region. ISU trains students in humanities, social, physical and life sciences. ISU offers bachelor, master, and post-graduate programs both for Russian and international students having opportunity to specialize under the supervision of world-known scientists. ISU facilities include educational institutions, research centers, modern laboratories and the scientific library. Irkutsk State University conducts research projects that among other things contribute to Baikal Siberia’s potential development and innovative economy advance. ISU is famous for its fundamental research in such spheres as high energy physics, analytical chemistry, experimental microbiology, archaeology, ethnography, environmental management and Baikal studies.

International cooperation is seen as one of ISU’s priorities: at present, the University has over 115 agreements on cooperation with foreign partners and implements joint educational and double-degree programs. Supporting the principle “education through science”, ISU is aimed at strengthening its position as the regional center for generating new knowledge in the context of changing social and economic environment. Irkutsk State University is aimed at developing long-term cooperation with foreign partners in such spheres as exchange of students and faculty members; joint research activities; internship exchanges; organization of conferences and workshops; advanced training and staff retraining.
