A meeting of Irkutsk region Council of Rectors was held at ISU in the Governor’s Hall of the White House. There were two items on the agenda: awarding mentors of students of secondary vocational education universities and organizations – participants of the forum “Young Specialist – Builder of the Future”, and the staff changes in the Irkutsk region Council of Rectors.

Alexander Schmidt, Irkutsk State University Rector, was nominated for the position of Chairman of the Board of Rectors. According to the results of the voting, Professor Alexander Schmidt, ISU rector, Doctor of Sciences in Chemistry, was elected to the post.

The first chairman of the Irkutsk region Council of Rectors was ISU Rector Y.P. Kozlov, since 1989 – ISU Rector F.K. Schmidt, since 1997 – Rector of Irkutsk State Technical University S.B. Leonov, since 1999 – Rector of Irkutsk State Academy of Economics M.A. Vinokurov, since 2015 – Rector of Irkutsk State Transport University (IrGUPS) A.P. Khomenko.

Alexander F. Schmidt – Doctor of Sciences in Chemistry, Professor. Was elected by a majority vote to the post of ISU Rector at the conference of employees and students of the university in 2020.

Born in 1965 in Angarsk, Irkutsk region. In 1987 graduated with honors from the Faculty of Chemistry of Irkutsk State University. After the graduate school (1991), he defended his PhD thesis (Candidate of Sciences), and in 2003 – his doctoral thesis (Doctor of Sciences).
