На историческом факультете прошло посвящение студентов в профессию. «Геродот» – так называется церемония – прошла в пятьдесят третий раз. Это одна из самых значимых традиций не только истфака, но и университета в целом. Ее история началась в 1961 году при активном участии профессора Федора Александровича Кудрявцева, который семнадцать лет носил звание Главного магистра истории. С 1978-го по 2013-й годы «главным» на посвящении был профессор кафедры мировой истории и международных отношений Владимир Павлович Олтаржевский. С этого года звание главного магистра перешло к профессору кафедры современной отечественной истории Александру Станиславовичу Маджарову.

В рамках посвящения прошел конкурс студенческих групп первокурсников. Студенты показали свои знания в учебе, а также интеллектуальные и творческие способности. Лучшими стали бакалавры направления «Зарубежное регионоведение», вторыми – политологи, а третьей стала первая группа направления «Международные отношения».
