Laboratory of Catalytic Processes Kinetics

RESEARCH FIELDS:

The development, probing and application of the kinetic research methods for the complex catalytic processes accompanied by the formation, deactivation, and reactivation of active catalyst

The investigations of the mechanisms of Pd-catalyzed reactions of aryl halides coupling with different nucleophiles (alkenes, alkynes, arylboronic compounds, and heteroaromatics) using the set of the developed kinetic approaches)

ACHIEVED OUTCOMES:

The kinetic methods for the investigation of the mechanisms of complex catalytic reactions have been developed based on the measurements of the differential selectivity of the catalytic systems. The methods have several advantages over the traditional kinetic methods that use the reaction rate/catalytic activity as the main parameter. Using the developed methods, the direct experimental evidences for the mechanistic hypotheses have been found for the synthetically important Heck reaction and its modifications, Suzuki and Sonogashira reactions, and direct arylation of heteroaromatics. The obtaining of such proofs was impossible earlier using traditional methods of chemical kinetics.

Unfortunately, kinetic investigation can be a painstaking job, and it is not surprising than not many people are willing to face it - prof. A. Biffis

I think most of these "not many people" seem to work at our university!
