Abstract

The book introduces a reader to the content of socio-political and economic processes and cultural transformations that have taken place in Eastern Siberia and the Far East since the birth of the idea of a new railway building to this day, i.e. for 150 years. The authors, often using little-known materials, reveal the history of the construction and functioning of the Baikal-Amur railway, the structure of political power and local self-government, the Soviet and Russian regional economy, culture and mentality of the region's population. The monograph shows the processes that took place in the social structure, science and culture of a huge part of our state, and also examines the issues of national security of the country, in particular its historical and geopolitical aspects. The book is primarily addressed to instructors of socio-humanitarian and geographical-economic disciplines, and above all history, in higher, vocational and secondary schools in Siberia. It can be useful to students and people interested in the phenomena, trends and patterns of regional socio-political and economic processes, the history of railway transport, and everyone interested in the history of their native land.
