Abstract

The works presented cover the problems and the main directions of the development of a modern city as a unique social system, the transformation of urban spaces in the aspect of civilizational achievements and shifts. The authors of the works analyze the peculiarities of the employment of the strategies of the development of modern Russian cities and the quality of citizens’ life. The methodological and practical approaches to studying civilizational achievements of cities have been approved at the Second international research-to-practice conference “Civilizational shifts in the city space: traditions and designing the future”, dedicated to the 360th anniversary of Irkutsk (Irkutsk, 27–28 May 2021). The authors focus on the crucial role of modern cities at the modern stage of civilizational-digital development, the preconditions and factors of transformational changes of urban spaces under the conditions of global and local challenges, the strengthening of system and off-system interrelations of cities and towns in regional space. Special attention is paid to the culture of the city of Irkutsk, its historical and community-state-business communications in Siberian region, with other Russian regions, and to the role of federal and municipal authorities in the support of socio-economic and socio-demographic development of the regions of Siberia and the Far East. The collection of works presents a wide range of sociological, philosophical, economic and other approaches and discursive technologies, which reflect both positive shifts and social contradictions in the construction of social spaces of modern cities. The collection of works is aimed at the academic community, the leading subjects of urban and regional development, representatives of government, business and civic society as well as anyone interested in the dynamics of civilizational development of cities and region of Russia and the world in the period of entering digital era.
