Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited ISU

Irkutsk State University was visited by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan Rahman Mustafayev.

During the meeting with the Acting Rector, Vice-Rector for Education Alexey Vokin, the parties discussed opportunities for establishing cooperation between ISU and educational and scientific organizations of Azerbaijan. Alexey Vokin spoke about the university as a whole and priority areas in educational and scientific activities.

 Alexey Vokin:

The choice of ISU for the visit is not accidental. A graduate of our university is the current Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev. This confirms the high level of professional training provided by the Law Institute of ISU. In this regard, we see significant potential in joint scientific and expert projects in the field of jurisprudence with colleagues from Azerbaijan. A separate promising area of cooperation could be initiatives devoted to issues of legal protection of Lake Baikal and the Caspian Sea. Of course, this does not negate our interest in cooperation in other areas. In the near future, our university will compile a list of specific proposals for interaction.

Rahman Mustafayev also met with students of the Faculty of History studying in the fields of “International Relations” and “Political Science”. The Ambassador spoke about the priority directions of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy, the main forms of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and answered questions from the audience.

Alexandra Gorodetskaya, 2nd-year student in “International Relations” at the Faculty of History:

We had a unique opportunity to meet with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It was interesting to immerse ourselves in the complexity of foreign policy: we discussed the nuances of Azerbaijan’s relations with Russia and Turkey, touched upon the dynamically developing partnership between Azerbaijan and China, as well as the specifics of interaction with other key players in world politics. Especially valuable for us was the opportunity to ask questions that concerned us and receive honest, detailed answers. This meeting made a great impression on all of us and gave us a charge of motivation: we developed a huge desire to study languages more diligently, study diplomacy, and in general work on self-development.
