A Russian-Chinese Round Table was held in the historic building of Irkutsk State University, the White House. Experts discussed issues of cooperation between the Irkutsk Region and regions of China. A few days ago, the official opening ceremony of the Cross Years of Russia-China Cooperation in Education took place during the official visit of Russian President V.V. Putin to China.

For Irkutsk State University, developing partner relations with educational and scientific organizations of the People’s Republic of China is one of its priority tasks.
As Alexey Vokin noted that among the foreign students of ISU over 60% are the citizens of the People’s Republic of China. In addition, Irkutsk University has active agreements with 60 educational organizations of the People’s Republic of China, including leading universities and scientific organizations. Together with colleagues from China, scientists of our university are implementing research projects in the fields of archaeology, chemistry and linguistics.
The expert dialogue on the development of Russian-Chinese cooperation began with an impulse report “Cooperation between Irkutsk Region and the Regions of the People’s Republic of China: Main Directions, Opportunities, and Challenges” presented by Ilya Oleinikov, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science, History and Regional Studies, ISU Faculty of History.
From the Chinese side, the round table was attended by representatives of the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR): Fu Xiaoqiang, President; Ding Xiaoxing, Deputy Secretary-General of the Institute of Eurasian Studies; Shang Yue, Deputy Director of the Institute of Eurasian Studies; Chen Qinghong, Deputy Director Institute of World Political Studies; Li Jingya, Researcher at the Institute of Eurasian Studies.

Cooperation in the field of education is a very important component of international relations between Russia and China. Our side is grateful that the round table is taking place at the oldest university in Eastern Siberia.
Fu Xiaoqiang also noted that geographically, Irkutsk is located closer to China. Irkutsk has an interesting history, with many Chinese tourists and students.
On the Russian side, the event was attended by representatives of RISS (Russian Institute for Strategic Studies): Evgenia Seregina, Chief Advisor to the Director; Ilya Kravchenko, Head of the Centre of External Relations and Protocol. In addition, the round table was attended by representatives of Irkutsk universities.
Also taking part in the Russian-Chinese dialogue were Andrei Yuzhakov, Vice-Chairman of the Government of Irkutsk Region, Alexei Nomokonov, Advisor to the Governor of the Irkutsk Region, Elena Apanovich, Elena APANOVICH Vice-Minister of Education of the Irkutsk Region.
