Hangeul Day at ISU Botanical Garden

On October 9, the representatives of Irkutsk State University and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Irkutsk traditionally met to celebrate the Korean Alphabet Day at the Botanical Garden of ISU’s Faculty of Biology and Soil Studies. Also present to mark the occasion were Ivan Kurza, a leading expert from the representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Irkutsk, and Daniil Goncharuk, a representative of the Governor’s office and the Regional Government’s Office for Public and International Relations.

The organizers prepared a cultural programme and a quiz on the history and language of the Republic of Korea for the guests. Faculty members, Russian students studying the Korean language, and Korean students currently enrolled at ISU actively participated in the event. Performances by Russian students in the Korean language were met with particularly warm support from the Korean students.

The celebration of Hangeul Day has become a good tradition for Irkutsk State University. Such meetings allow our students to engage with the culture and significant historical events of other countries and peoples. This is very important, as language, writing and culture are the foundation for the development of human society.

Promoting intercultural exchange and fostering student interest in different cultures is one of the university’s missions. The development of academic exchange programs effectively serves this purpose, which is why the academic mobility is a key element of the international activity of Irkutsk State University.
