Irkutsk State University has become one of the universities attractive for international students, according to the World University Rankings 2025 for International Students. The ranking is designed for international students, as it offers a comprehensive assessment of higher education institutions from around the world. The total number of ranked universities in the new ranking has exceeded 8000. The ranking includes leading universities from Europe, Asia, North and Latin America. Irkutsk State University is ranked 2128^th in the global ranking (the best 25% of universities), and 36^th out of 329 Russian universities listed in the ranking.

According to the ranking compilers: “Our assessment highlights the universities worldwide that excel both in providing high-quality education and fostering a supportive academic environment for international students. Study Abroad Aide is committed to providing reliable and thorough evaluations of higher education institutions to help students make guided decisions in their international academic journey.”

Other Irkutsk universities included in the ranking: INRTU ranked 2972^th (top 35%), BSU – 5083^th (top 70%), and Irkutsk State Medical University (ISMU) – 6405^th (top 76%).
