A public screening of the documentary “Space History of Russia” was held in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The film was produced by the Planetarium Association of Russia based on a script by professor Sergey Yazev, director of ISU Astronomical Observatory and a member of the Russian Cosmonautics Federation. The session was organized by the Russian Embassy in Indonesia, and Sergey Tolchenov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Indonesia, gave a speech at the event. The film tells about forty space achievements of the USSR and Russia, which our country achieved for the first time in the world.
Sergey Yazev, the author of the script:
People in Indonesia don’t know much about Russian cosmonautics. When I started answering questions from the audience after the screening, the interpreter had problems with the surnames Tereshkova and Leonova – she simply didn’t know them, although in general she spoke Russian fluently and understood everything well. The participants of the meeting noted that the USA promotes itself through Hollywood films, and that Russia should do the same.
Sergey Yazev and the producer of the film, the head of the Planetarium Association of Russia Andrey Lobanov participated in the discussion of the film, which took place after the screening, online via video link. Indonesian viewers asked questions, including questions about Russia’s international cooperation in space and about other Russian space-themed films.
This film has already been shown in Bolivia, Brazil, Great Britain, Venezuela, Guatemala, Cambodia, Cameroon, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Greece, Libya, Mexico, Mongolia, India, Peru, Syria, Uruguay, United Arab Emirates, and Equatorial Guinea.
