The Days of Korean Culture were held in Irkutsk from May 29 to June 1. It became a bright event for all fans of the Republic of Korea. The events were held at several venues, including Irkutsk State University. The main organizer was the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Irkutsk.
Korean studies at ISU is one of the actively developing areas. ISU annually holds various events aimed at introducing students and residents of Irkutsk to the culture, history and traditions of Korea, which contributes to the development of intercultural dialogue and strengthening mutual understanding between Korean and Russian peoples.
Today, 139 people study Korean at ISU: 91 students study on the main educational programs, 48 people are attending language courses.
The Days of Korean Culture began with an exhibition of photographs “Korea through the eyes of Siberians” at the cinema “Khudozhestvenny”, where the works of Siberian residents reflecting the beauty and the unique character of Korea were presented. The screening of three Korean films in Korean with Russian subtitles and a meeting of Russian and Korean poets were also organized.
On May 30, ISU International Institute of Economics and Linguistics organized the intellectual game “What? Where? When? – Riddles of Korea”, which was attended by students of several faculties of Irkutsk State University and Irkutsk National Research Technical University, students of Irkutsk schools. The questions of the game were concentrated on the culture, history, geography and modern culture of Korea.
On May 31, ISU Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Media Communication hosted a competition of performance in Korean. The students showed their proficiency in the language and knowledge of Korean culture.
The competition was attended by honorary guests – representatives of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Irkutsk and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Russia – Lee Dohun.
One of the brightest events was the “K-POP Cover Dance” contest. Dance groups have shown their talents: 22 creative performances were presented in the competition program.
