For the first time, Irkutsk State University entered the ranking of the world’s top universities in achieving sustainable development goals – QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024.
In the global list of 1397 institutions, ISU ranks 1201+. Among Russian universities (only 27 entered the ranking) ISU ranks 15th.
The QS World University Rankings: Sustainability has been compiled for the second time. It evaluates universities in three categories, which demonstrate the measures they have taken to solve the most acute global problems:
- Environmental Impact combines indicators of environmental sustainability, environmental education and environmental research.
- Social Impact combines the following indicators: equality, knowledge exchange, educational impact, employment and outcomes, health and well-being.
- Governance combines indicators related to good governance: ethics, hiring practices, financial transparency and decision-making, student representation in university governing bodies, etc.
The best indicator of ISU is in the third category (Governance) – 421. Among Russian universities, ISU is ranked seventh in this indicator.
The leader among Russian universities is the National Research University “Higher School of Economics” (344th place in the global ranking). ISU is the only university of the Irkutsk region represented in the ranking. Along with ISU, 11 more Russian universities are ranked 1201+, including such large ones as ITMO University, Siberian Federal University and Southern Federal University.
