2 October 2023

Irkutsk State University has once again entered the most prestigious world ranking of the best universities, which is published annually by the Times Higher Education magazine. 108 Russian universities are represented in the global ranking, among them ISU is ranked 10th.

The Times Higher Education ranking of the world's best universities is one of the most prestigious world university rankings. A total of 2 673 universities were ranked, 1 904 of which were included in the ranking.

Currently, the ranking is compiled in partnership with Elsevier and the Scopus database. One of the key conditions for getting into the ranking is the publication of at least 1,000 scientific articles in five years in publications indexed in the Scopus database supported by Elsevier publishing company.

When compiling the ranking, 18 performance indicators are used, grouped into five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook. The ranking is significantly influenced by the analysis of more than 80 million citations from 13 million scientific publications, as well as a survey of 22,000 scientists from around the world.

Lomonosov Moscow State University holds the first place among Russian universities. ISU is adjacent to 46 universities in the ranking, including large ones with the status of federal and national research, some of them received support within the framework of the project “5-100”.
