Irkutsk State University continues to develop international cooperation. Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi, India) became the new partner the university.
Jawaharlal Nehru University is a state university in India (founded in 1969), recognized as one of the best universities in the country, was included in top 20 of the best universities and is in the top 5% of the world. Most of its priority areas are related to art, management, humanities and social sciences. The university has a Center for Russian Studies – one of the oldest and largest similar scientific and educational centers in Asia.

“The Eastern turn in international cooperation, which has been actively implemented by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation since last year, is an established and very stable work direction for Irkutsk State University. However, partnership with India is a new and extremely important direction for us. If earlier contacts with Indian colleagues were only at the level of individual projects, then the conclusion of an agreement with Jawaharlal Nehru University will be the first step towards institutionalizing such cooperation.”
Academic exchange of students and teachers, joint research activities, implementation of short-term academic programs, cultural programs, joint participation in research projects and grant programs are planned within the framework of the agreement.
Cooperation of Irkutsk State University and Jawaharlal Nehru University began with a joint conference “Philology in the modern world: a view from Russia and India” held in November 2022 at the Indian university. ISU Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Media Communication took part in the conference as co-organizer. In the nearest future, universities are planning another large-scale interdisciplinary conference “Text and discourse: problems of analysis, interpretation, translation”. This time it will be held at ISU in September 2023.
