A delegation of Heilongjiang University (PRC) visited Irkutsk State University on an official visit. At the meeting held at the ISU Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Media Communication, the parties agreed on areas of cooperation.
The delegation of the Chinese university was headed by Vice Rector for International Relations Jing Liqiang and Director of the Institute of the Russian Language Sun Chao. They were welcomed to ISU by the Vice Rector for Research and International Cooperation Konstantin Grigorichev. He introduced the university, told about the presence of the university in the international rankings and about plans to open a research center for studying the countries of the Northeast Asia.
At the meeting, Jing Liqiang said that in the 1990s, students of Heilongjiang University came to Irkutsk for internships in the Russian language with great pleasure, and also noted: “Now it is time to re-establish the lost contacts and restore cooperation in the form of academic exchanges, summer schools, joint educational, methodological and research activities.”
Director of the Institute of the Russian Language Sun Chao, who was in Irkutsk on an internship in the early 1990s, invited colleagues to publish joint articles in a scientific journal published at Heilongjiang University and to participate in an international conference on Slavic studies to be held in August in Harbin.

Heilongjiang University has created a multi-level system of training Russian language teachers and translators. The university is the leading center of training specialists with the Russian language in China. Over 82 years of existence, more than 30 graduates of the university have become consuls and ambassadors working in Russia. The current Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Irkutsk Li Hai is also a graduate of Heilongjiang University.
