Spanish Language and Culture of Spanish-speaking Countries Day is a traditional event dedicated to the anniversary of the discovery of America by the famous Spanish navigator Christopher Columbus in 1492, which marked the beginning of creation of a new cultural space. Today, this holiday is called Hispanidad. It is a reminder of the commonwealth of states of the Spanish-American civilization.

At ISU, this event was organized by the Department of Romano-Germanic Philology. It was attended by about 150 students in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs of the ISU Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Media Communication, studying Spanish as a first or second foreign language, as well as students of the Angarsk Lyceum № 1.

The Day of the Spanish Language and Culture of Spanish-speaking Countries was held in the event hall of the Institute. Poems and songs in Spanish were performed on the stage, the audience saw foot tapping dances, funny scenes, learned a lot of new information about Spain, answered quiz questions about Latin American countries.

Aviamir Agency representatives were invited as guests. The Agency has been cooperating fruitfully with the Faculty of Foreign Languages for a long time in organizing work experience internship for students and employment of graduates, including Spanish translators. Graduates of previous years, as well as students from Ecuador studying at the Baikal State University also visited the festival.

The event is aimed at developing the creativity and communication skills of students and at popularizing the Spanish language, which already, according to official statistics, ranks second among foreign languages studied in Russia.
