Irkutsk State University has entered the most prestigious World University Rankings, which is published annually by the British magazine Times Higher Education for the third time. 76 Russian universities are listed in the World University Rankings (60 universities in 2021, 48 universities in 2020), ISU took the 42nd place among them.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is one of the most is considered to be one of the most respected world university rankings. The rating methodology is currently influenced by Elsevier and the Scopus database. Thus, one of the key conditions to be ranked by THE is publishing at least 1,000 scientific articles for the period of 5 years in the journals indexed in the Scopus database, supported by the Elsevier publisher.
In the ranking there were used 13 performance indicators, grouped into the five sections: teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook. The ranking is strongly influenced by the analysis of more than 80 million citations from 13 million scientific publications as well as by the survey of 22,000 scientists from around the world.
M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University holds the first place among Russian universities. ISU is listed alongside large universities that have the status of Federal or National Research Institutes, many of which are supported by 5-100 program.
