8 November 2022

Irkutsk State University has re-entered the World University Rankings 2023 by subject: physical sciences, which was published by the British magazine Times Higher Education.

In total, there are 1307 universities in the THE World University Rankings 2023 by subject: physical sciences, including 55 Russian universities. The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology became the best Russian University (82nd place). ISU is the only representative of the Irkutsk Region higher education institutions, it ranks 30th among Russian universities and 1001+ in the world rating.

Evaluation of the level of achievements of universities in the THE World University Rankings is based on the results of a statistical analysis of their activities and on the results of an annual global Academic Reputation Survey.

The THE ranking in the "Physical Sciences" field analyzes universities by thirteen indicators. The disciplines under consideration relate to the natural sciences: physics, chemistry, astronomy, earth and sea sciences, mathematics and statistics, geology and astronomy.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is considered to be one of the most respected world university rankings. Its advantage is an improved methodology developed in cooperation with the Times Higher Education magazine and Thomson Reuters Corporation. The rating methodology is currently influenced by Elsevier and the Scopus database.

Earlier, THE published the World University Rankings, which was the third time ISU was listed along with 76 other Russian universities, taking 42nd place among them.
