On April 23rd ISU hosted the first Interuniversity Eco-School dedicated to nature protection issues, especially Lake Baikal problems. Among participants were students from the Irkutsk region and the Buryatia republic.

The organizing committee included ISU student community ECOISU and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Irkutsk Region, the inter-regional department of Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources (Irkutsk region, Baikal region) and federal state-funded organization “Zapovednoe Pribaikalye”.

The Eco-school agenda included lectures and workshops delivered by the specialists in the field of nature protection. The inter-regional department of Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources (Irkutsk region, Baikal region) head Dr. Oxana Kurek presented the report about Rosprirodnadzor’s activities. The lecture about protection of unique Baikal ecosystem by Dmitry Karnaukhov, junior researcher of ISU Institute of Biology, acting head of ISU young researchers’ council and report on fundamentals for Eco business based on case of Plant nursery lectured by Xenia Geevskaya, director of Siberian reforestation company, were the headlining sections as well.

The Eco-School finished with the ceremonial signing of an agreement to establish the Association of Youth Environmental Associations of the Baikal Region "EcoYouth".
