The Consul General of Mongolia in Irkutsk visited Irkutsk State University on March 3rd

The new Consul General of Mongolia Jigmed Enkhjargal visited ISU with the purpose to meet ISU Rector, professor Alexander Schmidt and to learn more about the University. Konstantin Grigorichev, Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation, and Yulia Elokhina, head of international office, took part in the event as well.

During the meeting, Prof. Alexander Schmidt made an emphasis on the partnership with Mongolia which began in 1926 and on the current areas of cooperation with academic and science institutions in Mongolia.

Alexander Schmidt stated that the year 2020 had shown us that our own experience and offline contacts with partners were the most important and essential points. “We need to value every opportunity to provide meetings and carry on dialogues face-to-face. Nowadays Mongolia is the top priority in our list of international partners. We believe the Consulate General of Mongolia in Irkutsk will contribute to our cooperation with partners from Mongolia.”

In his turn, Jigmed Enkhjargal noted that the geographical closeness of Mongolia and Irkutsk region makes the further development of cooperation necessary. The Consul General highlighted ISU’s role in training specialists for Mongolia.

During the meeting it was announced about the series of events ISU is going to implement in 2021. The events are dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Russian-Mongolian diplomatic relations.
