A Walk on the Ice of Lake Baikal

Last Sunday, 150 students of Irkutsk State University walked almost 15 kilometers on the ice of Lake Baikal. This was a traditional ice crossing that happens in March. This year the event brought together students from four universities of the region.

The start of the trip began at the Dark Pad Station. The village of Staraya Angasolka is traditionally chosen as the first and main stop. Further short stops, hot tea and sandwiches, pies, and chocolate prepared at home gave the students the necessary boost of energy and strength for the second part of the transition. In a friendly column stretching for about 200 meters, the participants reached the final point of the walking path — Slyudyanka.

 — It was a long walk, but it was not boring: we listened to music, danced at campsites, took photos, talked and made new contacts. I want to note the coordinated work of the organizers — we went in a smooth, clear line and received answers to all our questions. Only positive impressions from such a wonderful event!  - Anastasia Shemetova, a student of the ISU Pedagogical Institute, said.

In Slyudyanka satisfied with themselves and a great weekend the participants of the ice crossing took the evening train to Irkutsk. The entire journey, which started and finished in Irkutsk, lasted for 13.5 hours.
