Dear lecturers, staff, graduate students, students and alumni of the University!
We are not only celebrating the anniversary of the oldest University in Eastern Siberia. We are celebrating the 95th anniversary of our alma mater - the University, which became our common fate!
Our University was established in the midst of the civil war, but with faith in the inevitable triumph of humanism and intelligence. ISU was the founder of many Siberian universities and almost all research institutions of the Irkutsk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Professors of our University have created a number of unique scientific schools and, thereby, made ​​a notable contribution to world science and formation of its new trends. Irkutsk classic University presented a whole galaxy of eminent scientists and talented professionals. Our graduates are scientific, educational, political, economic and cultural elite of the region. All this confirms one simple idea that if a university is real and all members of a society are interested in its creation and development, nobody and nothing can stop this process. The University in Irkutsk has always set the highest standards to measure the level of lectureship, university science, education and intelligence. It still maintains academic freedom, the cult of knowledge and scientific pursuit. These are the traditions of the founders of Irkutsk University which we managed to preserve over a nearly century history.
We all want the future of our University worthy of its glorious past, and for it to take its rightful place among the leading scientific and educational centers of the country and the world.
