Today ISU holds the official ceremony to present the Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Media Communication.

In July 2016 Eurasian Linguistic University (former Irkutsk State Linguistic University) ceased its activities. According to the decision taken by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, Eurasian Linguistic University’s departments, faculty members and students were offered to join Irkutsk State University.

Thus, there has been formed a new institute at ISU - the Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Media Communication.

The Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Media Communication consists of two faculties:
- the Faculty of philology and journalism
- the Faculty of foreign languages
