In early May, teachers and students of the ISU Faculties of Philology and Journalism and Service and Advertising took part in the conference "Traditions and Modernity in the Polish Poetry of the Second Half of the XXth Century". The conference was organized by the Consulate General of Poland in Irkutsk in collaboration with the Center for Polish language at Irkutsk State University.
The conference participants presented their reports devoted to the works of Czesław Miłosz, Wisława Szymborska, Zbigniew Herbert, and Tadeusz Różewicz. Guests of the conference from Poland – Prof.Wojciech Ligęza, Jagiellonian University (Krakow), Prof. Marian Kisiel, University of Silesia in Katowice and Dr. Jozef Ruszar, Ignatium Academy in Krakow – made reports in Polish language. Therefore, ISU students studying Polish had a chance to get to know the Polish scientific discourse and communicate with native speakers.
Between sessions an art-group “Jedliniok” from Wroclaw performed polonaise and mazury, and folk songs for conference participants.
The conference also became a platform to discuss further scientific cooperation (joint conferences, lectures and seminars of visiting lecturers) between higher education institutions in Krakow and Katowice and Irkutsk State University.
