Dmitry Berdnikov, the Mayor of Irkutsk, announced the winners of Irkutsk Mayor’s Scholarship  Program during the special ceremony on November 19.

In his speech addressed to the most successful students Dmitry Berdnikov stated:

– Learn and live in our city. If you prefer to stay and realize your potential in Irkutsk, our city will take advantage of it. We are bound to make Irkutsk a remarkable modern city full of interesting places to visit. It is up to you. Believe in yourselves and do not be afraid of overcoming the difficulties you may face. I will support your intentions.  

This year 43 students of Universities and colleges have been announced the winners, among them there are four ISU students: Natalia Gurinovich (Chemistry Faculty), Anastasia Oshchepkova (Geology Faculty), Natalia Romanenko (Institute of Social Sciences) and Ivan Khazheev (Institute of Mathematics, Economics and Computer Science).

Anastasia Oshchepkova (Geology Faculty):

– Being a student I work for the Geochemistry Institute. I study sediments of the Baikal bottom with the help of a new method – we simulate the mineral composition based on the chemical one. The purpose of the study is to learn more about the climate conditions of the past.

Natalia Romanenko (Social Sciences Institute)

– I think I have been awarded with this scholarship for being a leader of the volunteer’s movement “Irida”. We try to support children in the orphanage, elderly and handicapped people.
