The history of the Institute of Social Sciences began in 1995, when the specialty “Social Work” was opened at the Faculty of Psychology. In March of 1998, the Faculty of Social Sciences was separated from the Faculty of Psychology and began full-time and part-time accelerated training of students specializing in Sociology. Then came the third specialty of Regional Studies, and in 2001 the admission to the specialty Management of Organization. On the 26 of November, 2004, the Institute of Social Sciences was established at the faculty of social sciences. In 2012 a new specialty was opened: State and Municipal Management.

In March of 2013, the Institute of Social Sciences celebrated its 15th anniversary.

Currently, two faculties operate at the Institute of Social Sciences:

Social Faculty (full-time education)

Department of Complementary Education (part-time accelerated education) and 2 laboratories:

1. Sociology Laboratory for Regional Issues and Innovations.

2. Laboratory for Sociological Research at the Department of Social Work.

The faculty of the Institute of Social Sciences are highly skilled lecturers, 2/3 of whom have academic degrees and titles.
