Master’s program “Environmental management”
Abstract
In the face of the ecological crisis and the threat to ecosystems and the services they provide, master’s program “Environmental management” aims at training a new generation of scientists, experts, and field workers with broad knowledge in the field of applied ecology, conservation ecology, and ecological management.
The program provides the students with a theoretical and practical background in sustainable development, ecological risks, bioindication and biotestings, including statistics, mathematics, model developing and assessment procedures specific to nature conservation and management.
Environmental management is a program that prepares highly qualified specialists that possess necessary competencies for ecology-oriented decision-making in the sphere of natural resource use and other sectors of national economy, determination of optimal ways for development and efficient management of natural resources.
The graduate is well prepared either to highly demanding research work including the relevant PhD study or to professional and methodical (but legislative) work as in surveys, analyses or monitoring for state, public or commercial administration.
The international master program in Environment Management offered by the faculty of Biology and Soil Studies and faculty of Geography of Irkutsk State University is designed for outstanding students in environmental science and related disciplines. It aims to develop students’ abilities to analyze and explore existing and developing issues in ecological and environmental studies provided with high quality curriculum system and opportunities for research practice and field study.
