“Chinese Bridge” Competition

On June 27th, ISU Confucius Institute hold a qualifying round of the All-Russian Contest for students “Chinese Bridge” supported by Consulate General of People’s Republic of China in Irkutsk.

“Chinese language is not only a bridge between countries, but it is also a bridge of communication between people that can effectively help them to learn more about each other and to learn to communicate by studying Chinese language, history and culture,” – Prof. Konstantin Grigorichev, Vice Rector for Research and International Cooperation, noticed.
“Chinese Bridge” is a prestigious contest that has been conducted annually since 2002. Preliminary Qualifying Rounds are held in 182 countries, the final round takes place in China. For a number of years ISU Confucius Institute has been organizing the qualifying rounds in the consular area of the Consulate General of People’s Republic of China in Irkutsk (Irkutsk region, Buryatia republic, Khakassia republic, Tuva republic, Transbaikal region).
“We are very delighted to know that young sinologists from Siberia always successfully participate in All-Russian contests. I am sure that they will contribute to Sino-Russian friendship.” – Dr. Cao YunLong, Consul General of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Irkutsk, commented on.
Due to measures against the spread of COVID-19, this year the contest was conducted in a distant form. But that didn’t become a problem for students to show their skills in Chinese as well as their knowledge in the sphere of Chinese history, geography and literature.
The contest consisted of three parts: performance, China Studies quiz, and discussing the modern social problems in Chinese language with the members of jury.
Winners in the group of school students:
1st place – Ms. Aurika Zinkevich (Languages center “Hello”, Ulan-Ude, Buryatia republic);
2nd place – Mr. Andrew Linovitsky (Multidisciplinary Language Gymnasium № 4, Chita, Transbaikal region);

3rd place – Ms. Daria Perevalova (Linguistic center “Hello”, Ulan-Ude, Buryatia republic).

Winners in the group of university students:
1st place – Ms. Veronika Govorova (Baikal State University);
2nd place – Ms. Alexandra Gaynetdinova (Baikal State University);
3rd place – Ms. Dulma Arsalanova (Irkutsk State University), Kristina Yelina (Buryat State University named after Dorzhi Banzarov).
